The Last of the Mohicans by James Cooper is a novel set during the French and Indian War (Seven Years War) with the British and French fighting for control of North American in the 1750s and 1760s. During the war and in this story, Native American Indians play an essential role in the war for both sides especially the French forces. Along with the Native Americans, key roles in the novel include Colonel Munro and his two daughters who are being transporting to safety in upper New York where the tale is primarily set.
